The Coast Guard Turtle Conservation Project was launched in September 2012 with the purpose of preserving and raising the awareness of sea turtle conservation needs in Sri Lanka. Further Coast Guard plan to provide scientific data of turtle behavior (Nesting, hatchlings, feeding, mating) to those who are doing researches onthese diminishing species in the world. Located in the center of the Mrissa Beach where favorable environment conditions necessary for turtle nesting.

Loggerhead Green Turtle Olive Ridley Leatherback

Among the many different variety of this species only eight of these ancient reptiles are found living today. Of the eight, Sri Lanka is famous for five kinds of turtle's species including Green turtles, Leatherbacks, Olive Ridleys, Hawksbills and Loggerheads who regularly visit the sandy beaches to nest in Sri Lanka's South beaches including Mirissa. Anyone can visit the project site and educate on all aspects of turtles free of charge.
