Lankathilaka Vihara is one of the most symbolic structures of the ancient kingdom of Polonnaruwa. Lankathila Viharaya is a Gedige type large image house built by king Parakkramabahu ( 1153- 1186 AD).

Over 14m high The Buddha statue is completely made out of clay bricks and it has been used flat bricks for the statueThe area of expertise in this structure is the two pylons at the way in and the huge Buddha statue in side. This sculpture is 42 feet height and building walls are 53 feet high.

The Rankoth Vehera(Golden Pinnacle) is a colossal stupa(pagoda) modelled in Polonnaruwa about 55m (180ft) high, This is amongst the largest Stupa(Pagoda) in Sri Lanka and it is the fourth largest one. It was built by King Nissanka Malla as the hub of a group of buildings known as the Alahana Pirivena ('Crematory College'). There is an inscription that says that the king even watched over the workmen as they built this stupa(pagoda).

Alternatively you can take the Private vehicle, Bus or the Train from Colombo. The road is a bumpy highway, so the journey will take you almost the whole day.
