The Samadhi Buddha statue made in the 4th century and about 1.75 meters high and situated at Mahamevnawa Park in Anuradhapura, the Samadhi Buddha statue is one of the best examples of Sri Lankan sculpture.

The statue shows the Buddha sitting cross-legged in a meditating, or 'Samadhi' posture. Nehru, the first Prime minister of India, derived strength from looking at a picture of this statue during his imprisonment by the British.

Samadhi statue is the representation of Lord Buddha in the meditative pose. Samadhi is the state of deep contemplation, and the Lord Buddha is represented in this posture after attaining enlightenment and Samadhi Buddha statue was carved on limestone. When the statue was found in 1888 there nose was damaged. Legends say that the repaired nose is over sharp and overlarge than the original.
